What do you know about Scabies?

Scabies is a contagious, itchy skin condition which is caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. It can spread quickly through close physical contact with an infected person, that causes Intense itching occurs on the area where the mite burrows.

How does a person get infected?

This mite can pass on through infected person to another person. Most people catch scabies from direct, skin-to-skin contact. Less common reasons for mite infestation are from infested items such as bedding, clothes, toilet seats, and furniture.

What signs or symptoms shows mite infestation?

• intense itching (more at night)

• blisters

• A pimple-like rash

• pink raised bumps

How long does scabies last?

Within 24 hours of treatment, people are usually no longer contagious. Even after successful treatment, until the skin grows out, the dead mites and fecal material will remain in the skin for 2 to 4 weeks and leads to continuing itching.
