What is bruxism?

Bruxism is defined as excessive grinding of teeth or clenching of the jaw. Bruxism can affect individuals of any age from children to elderly depending upon the cause. Children grind their teeth mainly during sleep as compared to waking hours. Males and females both are affected by bruxism.

Bruxism are of two types:

There are two main types of bruxism

-One that occurs during sleep and is known as sleep bruxism.

-Second, that occurs during wakefulness is known as awake bruxism.


Is teeth grinding harmful?

Grinding can lead to wear down your teeth. Clenching of the teeth usually puts pressure on the muscles, tissues and other structures around the jaw. The symptoms can cause temporomandibular joint problems.
