What is Peritonitis?

Peritonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum. The inflammation is caused by pathogens like bacteria or fungi which results in infection of this membrane.

Peritonitis occurs as a result of rupture or perforation in the abdomen, or in case of medical complications..

What are the Classification of Peritonitis?

Primary peritonitis – infection developing in the peritoneum.

secondary peritonitis(Common Type) which happens when the infection comes into the peritoneum from the gastrointestinal or biliary tract.

What are the causes of Peritonitis?

• Crohn’s disease , diverticulitis

• Pancreatitis

• PID (pelvic inflammatory disease)
