What do we know about Abscess?

An abscess is a cavity containing pus which is surrounded by inflamed tissue, due to localized infection which enters the skin through injury causes red, tender and swollen skin.

Which are the causative bacteria of Abscess?

A causative bacterium of an abscess is Staphylococcus aureus.

How many types does Abscess have?

It is of 6 types:

Furuncles / Carbuncles:

It causes fever and abscess occur within the hair follicle.

Cystic acne

Cystic acne occurs in deeper skin tissue, mostly on the face and in the teenage years.

Pilonidal Cyst

It occurs in the crease of the buttocks. Pilonidal cysts begin as areas of skin infection from which hair grows.

Perianal abscess (Anorectal abscess)

It surrounds the anal canal and is responsible for the rectal abscess.

Lung abscess

It is the necrosis of pulmonary parenchyma which is caused by microbial infection, it is of two types-

– Acute or chronic

– Primary or secondary

Breast abscess

it is defined as a localized breast infection.
